Vizimox 500mg 100 Caps, Amoxicillin
INDICATIONS: VIZIMOX is a broad spectrum antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections such as:
Infections of the upper and lower airways: For example, ear, nose and throat, otitis media, sinusitis, pharyngitis, acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, lobar pneumonia and bronchopneumonia.
Gastrointestinal: For example, typhoid and paratyphoid.
Genitourinary infections: eg, cystitis, urethritis, pyelonephritis, bacteriuria in pregnancy, septic abortion, puerperal septicemia.
Infections of skin and soft tissue.
Biliary tract infections.
Gonorrhea (penicillinase-producing strains).
Dental abscess (as an adjunct to surgery).
Infections including septicemia, endocarditis, and meningitis caused by susceptible organisms, must be initially treated with high dose intravenous therapy administered and, where appropriate, in combination with other antibiotics.
Endocarditis prophylaxis: Formulation VIZIMOX ® can be used in preventing bacteremia associated with surgical procedures such as tooth extractions, in patients at risk of developing endocarditis.
Typically, strains of the following microorganisms are usually sensitive to the bactericidal action of VIZIMOX ® in vitro:
Aerobic: Enterococcus faecalis, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus viridans, Staphylococcus aureus sensitive to penicillin, Corynebacterium species, Bacillus anthracis, Listeria monocytogenes.
Anaerobes Clostridium species.
Aerobic: Haemophilus influenzae, Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis, Salmonella, Shigella species, Bordetella pertussis, Brucella species, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Neisseria meningitidis, Pasteurella septica, Vibrio cholerae, Helicobacter pylori.
Amoxicillin is susceptible to degradation
by the beta-lactamase, so that the spectrum of activity VIZIMOX ® formulation does not include microorganisms that produce these enzymes, including methicillin-resistant strains and all Pseudomonas, Klebsiella and Enterobacter.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION: Oral.
Adults (including elderly patients):
Standard Dose: 250 mg administered three times daily, increasing the dose of 500 mg three times a day to treat more severe infections.
Therapy with high doses (the recommended maximum oral dose of 6 g per day given in divided doses): A dose of 3 g twice daily in appropriate cases to severe or recurrent purulent infections of the respiratory tract.
